WONS MINISTRIES

WONS stands for Women, Orphans, Needy and Sick and this Ministry strives to help these vulnerable people in Matero Compound, Lusaka

The orphanage looks after 32 children. The home is small but the children are all happy and well cared for.

WONS Orphanage was started by Eunice Bwalya.

Eunice is a disabled woman who was herself brought up in an orphanage. The nuns who looked after her ensured that she was educated. She managed to go to College and she thus became self sufficient, working in Lusaka.

After a few years she realised that her calling was to look after those less fortunate than herself, and she needed to give back to the community that had helped her as a child. She started WONS Orphanage together with her husband. She gave up her job to become a “mother“ for all these children.

The orphanage provides shelter, food, clothing and education at a small community school which is also run by WONS Ministries.

There are many challenges as this orphanage gets no funding whatsoever. Challenges include food, clothing and general running of the home, plus looking after 5 teachers who work at the school on a voluntary basis.
