WHAT DO I NEED TO DO?

FIND A SHOE BOX

https://www.facebook.com/1519016575083437/videos/1914552908863133/

The box should be sturdy so as to last for a while.

Shoe stores usually have empty boxes to give away. Boxes from paper reams are also good.
Plastic boxes with lids are also acceptable.
Please do not use a very large box.

DECORATE YOUR BOX

Covering the box can be quite tricky….. but remember the children will cherish this box, so please do try to cover it neatly.

Remember that this box will become important to your orphan. It will be somewhere of his own where he or she can keep his or her goodies for the entire year.

You will need to decorate it. Be creative
You can:
• Paint it
• Cover it with paper
• Put stickers or cut outs on it
• Draw on it

Please do not embellish the box with bows or Christmas decorations etc, as then that box has to be “looked after” & remember that we are dealing with hundreds of boxes and they need to be stacked on top of each other.
Make it as personal as you can and always bear in mind the age and gender of your child.
If you cover it with paper, remember to cover the lid separately.
Label you box. Please print out the name of the orphanage, the full name & age of the child on your computer eg.

DO’S AND DON’TS

Please read as there is important info here!

DO’S

• Buy age and gender appropriate gifts. Perhaps a cuddly stuffed toy for a small child, whilst a teenager would love a pair of sunglasses or a cap.
• Any liquids – body cream, bubbles etc must be placed inside a ziplock bag to ensure that a leakage does not spoil the rest of the items.
• Do buy age appropriate educational supplies. Eg. Wax crayons for smaller children and perhaps a colouring in book. For older children who are of school going age, you can put in some pens, pencils, crayons and perhaps a few writing books, as well as a pencil case.
• For babies, see the separate list of what to include in your box.

DON’TS

Please don’t go overboard, as it is so important that all children have the same items in the box.

PLEASE DO NOT INCLUDE ANY OF THE FOLLOWING ITEMS:

• Battery operated toys
• Food – tinned or perishable food of any kind
• Chocolates as these will melt
• Medicines or vitamins
• Fragile items such as glass or mirrors
• Dangerous items such as scissors, knives or any other sharp objects.
• Toy guns or other war related items
• For younger children, boiled sweets
• Marbles or any small objects that could be swallowed or mistaken for sweets.
• Do not include anything of a political, religious or racial nature
• Should any of the above mentioned items be included, we reserve the right to remove them from the box. It will then be used / sold for the benefit of the orphanages
